How Do You Promote a Bookstore on Google Display?
A customer has already seen the staff pick video on Instagram — a hand pulling a paperback off the shelf, a handwritten reason why. It worked at nine-by-sixteen with sound on. Google Display is a different room: a sidebar, an app banner, sound off by default, sometimes as small as a square. Rather than writing a new brief for that room, the same one comes back as a second version, in 1:1 or 16:9, five to fifteen seconds, with the reason for the book carried in on-screen text instead of a voice. Same cover, same hand, smaller stage.

The first three seconds: a cover in a hand
Open on the book itself, held and turning: a hand lifting it off the table, the cover catching the shop's light, a thumb riffling the pages. Film on a phone at the counter. Put the title and the author on screen immediately, because half the people watching are deciding whether they have already read it. The shelves and the shop front make a better ending than an opening.

Format, length and safe zones for display
16:9 widescreen suits most in-page players, and 1:1 square fits boxier slots; the studio renders both as H.264 MP4 from 5 to 60 seconds. Keep every element large and centered, because the player may be no wider than a phone. Leave margins so nothing clips when the box is scaled, and check the current requirements of the placement you are buying before you upload.

Take the staff pick video from last week — the one with the paperback and the handwritten card — and re-render it for Google Display. Make a 10-second 1:1 version and a 10-second 16:9 version. Keep the cover and the hand pulling it off the shelf as the opening shot. Replace the narration with on-screen text: the book title, one line on why we picked it, and the store name. No music needed, this one plays silent. Keep the text centered so it survives a small banner size.
Questions people ask
Does the display version need new footage?
No. The same upload from the original brief carries over — the hand, the cover, the shelf. The studio composes it again at the new ratio and length; nothing needs to be shot twice, and the second version costs less than the first.
What should the on-screen text say if there's no sound?
Keep it to what the narration said, cut down: the title, one line on why it's worth reading, and the store name. Display plays muted by default, so the reason for the book has to sit on the frame, not in a voiceover.
