How do you promote an event for your locksmith business?

A locksmith in Leeds ran a free lock-check Saturday for anyone worried after a spate of break-ins on the street behind his shop. Twelve people showed up, three became recurring customers, and the video that got them there opened on his hands re-keying a deadbolt he'd pulled from a real front door. No stock photo of a padlock, no stranger's smile. The date and address sat on screen the whole fifteen seconds, and the last frame held the address still long enough to screenshot. That's the shape: show the actual work, then say when and where plainly.

Where and how long

Emergencies are phone moments, so 9:16 at 1080×1920 and 15 seconds is the core render for Reels, Stories and TikTok. A 1:1 version works in the Facebook feed and neighborhood groups, which is where "does anyone know a locksmith" actually gets asked. Keep a 30-second 16:9 cut on your website covering lockouts, lock changes and security upgrades, because that is where someone planning an upgrade reads.

Where it runs and which cuts to make

Render 9:16 at fifteen seconds for Stories and Reels, 1:1 for the feed, and 16:9 for the newsletter and a screen in the window. Build three versions on the same plan: a save-the-date weeks out, a week-before cut with the program on screen, and a day-of version that just says doors open tonight. Each is a re-render with a new card, not a new video.

A 15-second video for a free lock-check event at our shop, Saturday the 14th, 10am to 2pm, 22 Mill Street. Open on a close-up of hands re-keying a real deadbolt on the counter, then a quick cut to the shop front with the sign visible. On-screen text: Free Lock Check Saturday, 22 Mill Street, 10-2. Calm English narration, one line: no appointment needed. End on the address held for two full seconds so people can screenshot it.

Questions people ask

Should the video show a technician or the actual lock work?

The lock work. A close-up of hands re-keying a real deadbolt or picking a demo lock reads as proof that the person running the event knows the trade. A smiling headshot doesn't answer the question a worried homeowner is actually asking, which is whether this person can be trusted with their front door.

How long should the address stay on screen?

Long enough to screenshot without pausing, so hold it as a static end card for the last two to three seconds rather than animating it in and out. Keep the street number and time in the same line so a glance catches both, and repeat it in the caption underneath.
